BCYC -- Weld Award 1991 -- John Wylde

The Fourth Annual

Sailboat

One of the original tenets of the Weld Award is to recognize the generosity of spirit of unsung heros of the BCYC Sailing Program. Last week Hurricane Bob did his best to put a serious crimp in that program. All of us lost power, some of us lost boats and docks.

As a result of Bob, several BCYC members helped their neighbors in small thoughtful ways. One member, however, stood tall above us all. He quietly rolled up his sleeves and pulled his neighbors boats out of the reach of approaching 12-foot waves.

Finally, in an effort to bring power swiftly to our sailors (and their families) he went forth into the woods with an emergency tree crew. At his own personal expense and peril he cut down trees and brush lying on electrical wires.

Although he rarely sails now, he has selected with care each year Gatemen to help us run our weekly races.

Certainly this year when our team was in the clutch, no one stepped up to bat and hit with more power than this man.

The BCYC Executive Committee proudly presents its 1991 Rudolph Weld Memorial Award to...
