BCYC -- Weld Award 2000 -- David Pearce

The Thirteenth Annual

Sailboat

The best example of
The Rudolph Weld Award
Is the parent who sees
That his kids are aboard

The children, you know, now
have a class of their own
And under his attention
Oh, My, how they've grown

In good weather or foul
He doesn't give a damn.
He's gotta get his sons
Into an Optimist Pram.

To get boats - and sons, too - to class on time,
Is cause for a nervous wreck.
He drives them in his van,
Or sails over from Great Neck

He teaches them to rig boats.
And, then, to save the day,
He rescues a runaway pram
That suddenly gets away.

He offers to crew
For any child all alone.
A true teacher, a mentor,
A sailor to the bone.

His Saturday passion
For the children is fierce.
There is no doubt about it:
Our hat's off to ...

David Pearce.
